Sauteurs

One day, we decided to be adventurous and explore the island a little bit more.  So after sleeping in (a Saturday morning must) we headed for Sauteurs - the northernmost town on Grenada.  Traveling there involved taking a bus into town (St. Georges), and from there, switching to a next bus to head up the western side of the island, to the parish of St. Patrick.  The total price for this drive of close to 20 miles is $9.00 for one way.  The drive takes a little over an hour (depending how zealous your bus driver is), but the scenery up there is worth it!

Our specific destination was a hill known as Carib's Leap.  The momument below tells the history behind the place.

I am told that the Caribs were actually being enslaved by the French, on this island of Grenada, their native home.

I met some very photogenic people along the way  :)

After admiring the scenery, testing out our jumping skills and the self-timer on my camera, and meeting some people from Miami, FL who very kindly took our picture for us, we decided that we were hungry.

We wandered through the back door of a very deserted looking restaurant, where a number of people were just standing around.  We asked if they were serving lunch and they replied that they weren't cooking food today, but they could show us a place that was.  After trying to act like we understood some very complicated instructions to a place that was just across the street and down a little ways, we made a quick exit.  We trekked down the street under the watchful eyes of the men who had just given us the directions and wandered right into......a drugstore! :)  Oops!!!!  After arguing who should be the first to come back out and whether or not we should wave at them, we quickly filed out the door and around the building to the correct flight of stairs!

After finishing our chicken and chips (which were delicious), we decided to find a bus and head for home again.  It was a short but good time away and it was fun to see a part of the island that I had never seen before.
