Here, There, and Everywhere

The time had come.....for our third and final field trip of the school year.  There were "hurray's"  from the students and puzzled looks from the teachers for where to go.  On an island this big, there are only so many places to go!  After the first few ideas for the field trip fell through (Coca-Cola factory and chocolate factory), it was decided that we would go on a hike/sight-seeing field trip.  We piled into two buses.  Somehow I got stuck in the same bus with the very loveable, but sickness-prone kindergartners....again!  And we were off!

Our first stop was a cave.   We had to hike back through some large gardens.  The path was overgrown with some very tall grass.  I'm sure the shorter kids felt like they were in the jungle!

The grass kind of made you itchy, so the students were lifting up their arms to get them out of the grass :)

Finally, we reached the cave (i.e. hole in the ground).  A teacher was needed to stand in the middle of the cave to hold a flashlight and guide the students through.  That teacher was me.  I am not really afraid of caves, but I do hate strongly dislike bats and rats and critters of that sort.  And the bats were in great abundance in there, especially with very noisy students walking through!  Every one of our students and teachers passed through the cave.  Not without a few tears, though!  (From a few students, not the teachers...that I know of anyway!)

Our next stop was Concord Falls.  We walked down a bunch of steps to get to the main falls.  There we washed our muddy feet off and took a whole school picture.

Soon we loaded up the bus and headed for our final destination - Carib's Leap, otherwise known as Leapers Hill.  It is a historical site in the town of Sauteurs, where a number of Caribs leap off a cliff to their death instead of being captured by the French.  We were planning on going down to where they used to have a museum somewhat in front of the cliff, but the gate was shut.  But as it appeared others had already done, we squeezed through some loose bars in the gate and proceeded down the shaky wooden walkway, to a pavilion below, where we ate our lunch.

Before too long, it was time to pack up and head back to school.  They drive home took approximately an hour.  I think it seemed longer than that to me as I was surrounded by either sleeping or throwing up kids.  For some kids the plastic bag is still hard to hit even when they're holding it in their laps! :(

And so we concluded our final field trip.  In some ways it's hard to believe that this school year is practically over already.  On the other hand it is almost July already and we are still in school.  And will be...for another 7 school days!
