Ice Cream!!!

As a reward (and an incentive) for my sometimes lazy laidback students, we went out for ice cream.  This had been a couple weeks coming, as their addition math facts-per-minute inched higher and higher.  Finally the last two students reached their goal, and I told them that we would get ice cream the next day.

One of their first questions was - "Do we need to walk all the way down there?" Why yes, you do need to walk the whole way there - all 1/2 mile of it!

So we trekked down the road to Rick's Cafe.  Once there, the students were faced with the hard decision of which flavor to choose.  Chocolate, Vanilla, and Coffee Break were the favored choices.  With ice cream cones in hand we sat at the picnic tables, trying to keep after the drips of ice cream that were threatening to escape.

After quickly devouring their ice cream cones, they quickly ran off to admire the huge goldfish nearby.  Of course, they all had to feed them too....

Finally it was time to head home.  After stopping numerous times to tie unruly shoes, we made it back to school, shortly after the bell had rung, signaling the end of school.  I believe it was the next day that I heard one of my students say that they should get more ice cream for reaching their goals in subtraction math facts too!  Hmmm....I don't know about that - too much ice cream could be detrimental...for this teacher anyway! :)
