Beach Day!

As a reward for my students hard work - our goal was fifty 100%'s - we took the afternoon off and went to the beach, which is only a 3 minute drive from school.  They were so excited to go.  Even though many of them live so close to the beach, going there is still special to them.

We celebrated Shenique, Stephon, and Esther's birthdays with cupcakes while we were there.  Their birthdays are actually during the Easter holiday, which starts next Monday.
I asked them if they could agree what kind of cake I should make for them.  They quickly agreed on chocolate cake with rainbow icing.

I think the icing was beginning to melt...

The kids occupied themselves for awhile with playing "shark" and filling a plastic bag and dumping it on each other.  Pretty much all of them were like little fish - totally comfortable with being in the water.  The beach was pretty empty, so that was nice too!

We returned to school tired, wet and sandy just as the bell rang at 2:30 pm, but I think everyone would agree that the beach is definitely better than being stuck inside for afternoon classes.  Hmmm...maybe my class could start having P.E. on the beach...or something! :)
